    My Rates

I believe that therapy should be available to all. I offer a sliding scale, with rates that vary according to my client’s financial situation:

    Living in Financial Abundance

    $400 per hour
    • Financially, I can comfortably meet all my basic needs (food, housing, & transportation); any stress I feel about finances is never about meeting my basic needs
    • Any debt I carry doesn’t keep me from meeting basic needs
    • I am stably employed, or I am a stay-at-home caregiver not seeking to work outside the home while my partner is stably employed, or I don’t need to work to meet my needs
    • I own or rent a home that is comfortable and spacious, with modern conveniences
    • I own or lease my car, and can get a new car every few years if I want to
    • I have access to healthcare whenever I need it
    • I have access to savings and can tap it when I need to
    • I can always buy new items if I want to
    • I generally have discretionary income and can treat myself to indulgences when I want to
    • I’m usually able to buy higher-end items if I prefer to

    Living in Financial Stability

    $240 per hour
    • Financially, I regularly meet all my basic needs (food, housing transportation); any stress I feel about finances isn’t usually about meeting my basic needs
    • Any debt I carry doesn’t keep me from meeting basic needs
    • I am stably employed, or I am a stay-at-home caregiver not seeking to work outside the home while my partner is stably employed
    • I own or rent a home that is comfortable and spacious enough, with modern conveniences
    • I own or lease a car and can afford gas, or I am car-free by choice
    • I usually have access to healthcare when I need it
    • I might have access to some savings I can tap when I am low on funds
    • I can usually buy new items, though sometimes I need to plan ahead
    • I have discretionary income sometimes; I can treat myself to a few indulgences every month
    • I can take a vacation every year or two if I plan ahead

    Living in Financial Scarcity

    • I might have debt, which sometimes keeps me from meeting basic needs
    • I am unemployed, underemployed, or usually worried about my income or my job’s stability
    • My home lacks space/comfort or modern conveniences, or my housing is unstable
    • I don’t have a car (not by choice), or I have limited access to a car but I can’t always afford gas
    • I don’t always have access to the healthcare I need
    • I don’t have savings I can tap when I am low on funds
    • I rarely buy new items

This approach is based on the ”Green Bottle” framework created by Alexis J. Cunningfolk (www.wortsandcunning.com) with additions by Britt Hawthorne (www.embracingequity.org).

Please be advised: I currently have a waitlist for sliding scale rates, for those Living in Financial Scarcity.

    Payment Methods

I accept payment via cash, Zelle, Venmo, credit card, and Thrizer. I greatly prefer Zelle. Payment will be charged 24 hours prior to sessions.

    Cancellation & No-Show Policy

Because I make my living through my therapy services, I charge for missed sessions that aren't cancelled with 24 hours’ notice. I make one exception per calendar year.

    Insurance Coverage

I am not in-network with any health insurance plans. For clients who wish to use their out-of-network health insurance benefits for mental health coverage, I’ve partnered with Thrizer.

    Out-of-Network Coverage through Thrizer

Thrizer verifies your out-of-network benefits for therapy and submits out-of-network claims on your behalf. Thrizer manages all the hassles of interfacing with your insurance company and waits for reimbursements on your behalf.

During our initial free 20-minute consultation, I’m happy to use Thrizer’s benefits lookup tool to check to see how much you can expect to be reimbursed for our sessions. Thrizer guarantees the reimbursements it promises, even if your insurer ends up challenging or refusing the claim.

If you use Thrizer to manage your out-of-network claims, you have these options:

    • Pay my full fee at time of service, then get reimbursed for your Out-of-Network benefits by Thrizer. Once you upload your superbill to Thrizer, they will manage submitting your claim on your behalf. You can choose to get reimbursed either immediately, or later via direct deposit once the claim is approved (usually a few weeks). There is no charge to you for this option.
    • Pay only your co-pay (if any) at time of service through Thrizer. Thrizer acts as your payment method: it pays me my full fee, submits your Out-of-Network claim for you, then waits to get reimbursed by your insurance company. Thrizer charges you a 5% convenience fee for this option, which is added to your co-pay at the time of payment.

To sign up for Thrizer, just let me know and I can add you, or visit Thrizer's website to get started.

Remember: you may have a deductible. Thrizer only reimburses whatever your insurance company pays for out-of-network sessions after your deductible is met.

    A Note about Insurance Coverage

Most health insurers require a mental health diagnosis in order to cover psychotherapy. Usually, in order for your Out-of-Network claims to be eligible for coverage and reimbursement, you (or one person in the couple/family being seen, if you’re in relational therapy) needs to be diagnosed with a mental health disorder (e.g. Major Depressive Disorder, PTSD, etc.).

If you don’t want to have a mental health diagnosis charted on your medical records, or if you don't actually have a mental health disorder, your therapy sessions probably won’t be covered by your health plan.

If you plan to submit your Out-of-Network reimbursement requests yourself, be sure to check with your insurance plan in advance to see if your care is covered, and to find out whether a diagnosis is needed to secure that coverage. To do this, you should message your insurer and provide:

    • My name, Kristin Cherry Jackson
    • My NPI number: 1073214433

...along with the CPT codes that correspond to the type of therapy you’re receiving:

    • 90791 for our initial session
    • 90837 for ongoing individual therapy
    • 90847 or 90846 for ongoing relational therapy

They will tell you the dollar amount covered for these services.
