My therapeutic approach
My approach to therapy centers my client’s experiences and objectives. I believe that everyone has the capacity for growth. I’m here to help you create the life you want, whether in your internal experience or in your relationships.
I work with individuals, partners, and couples, and I also offer support groups.
I’m excited to partner with you as you step into a life of authenticity, fulfillment, and alignment with your personal values and goals!
The hallmarks of my practice
My work with every client includes improving their emotional fluency. I also help clients uncover harmful hidden assumptions and beliefs, and cultivate ways of communicating that invite mutual understanding. I see these as essential foundations for personal growth.
Beyond these basics, I take an integrative approach to therapy, identifying each client's goals in our first session and tailoring my strategy based on their needs.
The modalities I use are evidence-based and center emotion, compassion, attachment, and congruence with a person's values and their authentic Self.
I take a humanist and experiential approach to therapy. The modalities I use include:
- Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)
- Satir Model Therapy
- Family Systems Therapy,
- Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
- Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
- Compassion-Focused Therapy
- Narrative Therapy
With couples, I draw on these approaches:
- The Gottman Method
- Integrative Behavioral Couple Therapy (IBCT)
- Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFCT)
You'll find I have a dynamic and flexible style. Depending on your needs and desires, I may include psychoeducation, bibliotherapy, journaling, worksheets, creating art, role play, breathwork, meditation, or other interventions in our work together.
My path to this practice
In my early 40’s, I became curious about what is often known as “Tantra” – that is, sacred sexuality. I learned just how joyful, connecting, and even awe-inspiring sexual experiences could be, when focused on mindfulness, presence, and authenticity...and with good communication!
I was inspired to become a sacred sexuality educator and coach. In 2014, my life partner and I founded Moksha Tantra Center here in Seattle.
After discovering my passion for helping people find more fulfillment in their emotional and sexual lives, I decided to change careers. With a master's degree and several intensive programs in sex therapy and healing under my belt, I became a licensed psychotherapist and sex therapist.
We are the sum of our experiences
As a systemic therapist, I view the elements of a person's family and cultural background as puzzle pieces. These pieces fit together and help to create a picture of who they are.
You might be curious about my puzzle pieces!
I am a white, cisgender, straight, demisexual woman. I grew up in a Seattle suburb, in a middle-class family. As an adult, I've spent over 10 years living in several cities on the East Coast.
I married young, climbed the corporate ladder, and wrestled with the decision to become a mother. I've been through pregnancy, miscarriage, motherhood, divorce, remarriage, co-parenting, and raising LGBTQIA+ kids.
Every part of my past is something I can learn from. Now, as a therapist, I appreciate that my life path has made me uniquely situated to help people with similar experiences.
Helping you rise above challenges
There should never be shame or stigma in admitting our struggles. I can tell you from personal experience: there is hope for growth through mental health challenges.
I know what it's like to feel like a fish out of water. As a child, I experienced giftedness, neurodivergence, and serious bullying. Today, I see my ADHD as a superpower.
After being immersed in the unique cultural context of white Evangelical Christianity, I've grappled with sexual dysfunction and explored my sexual orientation. I can say from experience that there is joy, connection, and ease to be found in sensuality.
I've struggled through bouts of depression and anxiety and bounced back stronger than ever.
If my story resonates with you or the issues you're dealing with, please reach out. I would love to connect and partner with you as you explore your challenges!
My approach to our differences
I don't expect to work with people who are exactly like me, and I don't want to! I welcome clients from all identities, cultures, and walks of life.
I appreciate and honor the intricacies of intersectionality.
I know I may have blind spots because of being part of (and holding the privileges of) the dominant culture. Because of this, I seek to always embody cultural humility and notice and honor our differences.
Vive la difference!
Even if you and I aren’t aligned in every area of our identities, experiences, or beliefs, I believe our shared humanity and our care for each other are what allow us to connect, person to person.
I look forward to learning about you and discovering what makes you unique!
